Sexual Harassment Southern Connecticut University Lawsuit 2 University student files sexual harassment lawsuit against professor and schoolNEW HAVEN, CT — A Southern Connecticut State University student has filed a lawsuit, claiming her music professor sexually harassed her and the college did nothing after she came forward with complaints.

Wendy Wyler claims that David Chevan sexually harassed her in several ways, from calling her “sexy” and other lewd comments to leading her to a storage room and propositioning her for sex.

After hearing Wyler’s complaints, the university determined Chevan violated the school’s sexual harassment policy, but did not fire him.

Chevan told university officials he was trying to act as a therapist to Wyler, but acknowledged he crossed some boundaries. He claims he was not trying to get intimate with her but did not explain why he chose to speak with Wyler in a closet as opposed to his office.

Another student also accused Chevan of making sexually suggestive remarks, inappropriately touching her, and offering to smoke marijuana with her.
After Wyler discovered that Chevan was not fired, she turned to a university official, who nonchalantly told her, “Welcome to the world of academia.”

The lawsuit, which names both Chevan and the university as defendants, seeks unspecified damages and that Chevan be fired from his position.
